Nature has its own sounds.

In summer, cows graze around the house. Their bells are part of staying in the countryside.

Summer, winter & in between

Outside, the
Appenzellerland waits.

Walking days, winter air and living traditions. Or simply a day with no plans at all.

Green days

Holidays in the middle of nature.

The hills around Urnäsch and the Alpstein mountains invite you out walking. Back at the house, the terrace is waiting. Sometimes a curious neighbour looks in too.

White days

Winter holidays with warmth from the stove.

When there is snow, the final stretch to the house leads uphill on snowshoes: around 15 minutes, steep in places. Indoors, the tiled stove becomes the centre of things.

Living tradition

Silvesterchlausen in Urnäsch.

On 31 December and Old New Year, 13 January, the Silvesterchläuse are out and about. The morning of 13 January is especially impressive: from around 6 a.m., guests can walk down to Schönau and experience the Chläuse there. You usually hear them from far away — and seeing them in the dawn is a goosebumps moment. If the date falls on a Sunday, the custom takes place on the Saturday before.
